WHAT ARE DENTAL VENEERS?
Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored coverings bonded to the front of teeth to improve their aesthetic. They are created to match the unique color, shape, and size of your natural teeth perfectly. Most dental veneers are made from composite resin or porcelain and are a pain-free, minimally-invasive option to restore the appearance of imperfect teeth. At Soothing Dental, we are proud to provide porcelain veneers; these are the preferred material due to their natural appearance, durability, and stain resistance. It’s possible to have one dental veneer placed over a damaged tooth; however, most people have anywhere from 4 to 10 veneers placed at once to achieve a symmetrical, natural result. Veneers can resolve many cosmetic dental imperfections, including:
- Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth
- Misaligned or uneven teeth
- Gapped teeth
- Worn-down teeth
- Discolored teeth
DENTAL VENEER PROCEDURE
Having veneers placed in your mouth takes place over three dental appointments.
- During your first visit, Dr. Vinton will examine your teeth and create your personalized treatment plan.
- At your second appointment, Dr. Vinton will prepare your teeth for veneers by gently roughening up the surface of the teeth that will be getting the veneers, then take a digital impression of your mouth. These impressions will be sent to a dental lab where your permanent veneers will be created, usually in about three weeks. In the meantime, a temporary veneer will be placed in your mouth.
- At your final appointment, Dr. Vinton will remove your temporary veneer, then make sure that your permanent veneer is the perfect size, shape, and color. Next, he will bond the veneer to your tooth and allow it to harden with a specialized ultraviolet light. He will also make any adjustments necessary to achieve the most beautiful, comfortable results possible.
HOW TO CARE FOR DENTAL VENEERS
To keep your porcelain veneers in excellent condition for many years, be sure to:
- Brush your teeth twice a day
- Floss and use mouth wash daily
- Visit the dentist twice a year
- Avoid biting hard items or grinding your teeth
ARE DENTAL VENEERS RIGHT FOR ME?
Determining whether dental veneers are the right choice for you involves considering various factors related to your oral health, cosmetic goals, and lifestyle preferences. Dental veneers are typically recommended for individuals looking to improve the appearance of their teeth affected by issues such as discoloration, chipping, cracks, misalignment, or gaps. If you desire a solution that can enhance the aesthetic harmony and symmetry of your smile, veneers may be suitable. Additionally, if you’re seeking a minimally invasive cosmetic option that provides long-lasting results, dental veneers could be a viable choice. However, it’s essential to consult with a qualified dentist to assess your dental health, discuss your goals, and determine whether veneers are the best option for reshaping your teeth. We will evaluate factors such as the condition of your teeth, gum health, and bite alignment to help you make an informed decision about whether dental veneers are the right solution for achieving your dream smile.
ARE THERE ANY LIFESTYLE FACTORS THAT MAY IMPACT THE LONGEVITY OF DENTAL VENEERS?
Several lifestyle factors can influence the longevity and durability of dental veneers. Practices such as smoking or using tobacco products can stain or discolor veneers over time, diminishing their aesthetic appeal. Additionally, consuming highly pigmented foods and beverages, such as coffee, tea, red wine, or berries, may contribute to staining and require diligent oral hygiene habits to maintain the brightness of veneers. Individuals who grind or clench their teeth, a condition known as bruxism, may experience premature wear or damage to their veneers, necessitating protective measures such as wearing a night guard.
